Letter rule: each word starts with the last letter of the word before it. As soon as a word ends with TARGET’s first letter and is related to TARGET, it links to TARGET and the chain is scored. (If it isn’t related to TARGET, the chain just goes on.) TARGET glows warmer the closer your latest word is to it in meaning, and a word close to TARGET lands on a straight path toward it, while one that has nothing to do with it veers off to the side.

Real English words, 3+ letters, no repeats (START and TARGET count). Concepts of up to three words work too, if ConceptNet knows them: FARM ANIMAL, COOKING FOOD, CUP OF TEA. The letter rule runs over the whole concept (FARM ANIMAL starts with F and ends in L).

Related words only: each word must be at least a little related to the one before it. Rare words and abbreviations need a clear link (at least Synchronized), both in and out.

Every link costs points, and the better linked the two words are, the less it costs: from +11 down to +1. That includes the first link from START and the last one into TARGET. The better linked a word is, the bigger and brighter its neuron grows; the word that reaches TARGET takes the average of its two links.

You have 30 seconds per word. The clock restarts after each new word (not for a word you took back with Undo). If it runs out, the round ends.

Stuck? Cognition plays the best next word for you (it can find the word that links to TARGET, too), but it adds +20 to your score on top of that word’s link, and Undo doesn’t take it back.

Lowest score wins. Par is the best score the solver found using everyday words.

Daily: everyone gets the same 3 TARGETs in a row, each starting from the one before. It counts once: your words (and the clock) are saved as you go, reopening it shows your result, and playing it again is practice.

Seen it before? A word the game has shown you for a TARGET (in a solution, or from Cognition) costs +20 if you play it on that TARGET again, like Cognition, unless you’d found it yourself first.
